Andrew Liberty was named the Head Baseball Coach at CCU in May of 2024 after assisting the team the past five seasons. In his first season at the helm, the Cougars closed strong with back-to-back series wins over Mines and New Mexico Highlands.
Liberty comes to Colorado Christian University by way of Boca Raton, FL where he grew up and played for his high school and travel baseball. Liberty was coached by former Colorado Christian head coach, Gregg Mucerino, while playing high school ball at Calvary Christian Academy.
Following his high school career, Liberty continued his playing days at Nova Southeastern while he majored in Exercise Science. Liberty played three seasons for the Sharks, during the course of which he became an NCAA Division II National Champion in 2016.
In his senior season in 2018, Andrew's stellar play earned him first-team NBWA All-American honors. In the 2018 season, where Liberty started 36 games, he hit .429 with 48 runs scored, 37 RBI's with 26 extra base hits.
Liberty’s parents are a huge reason as to why he played sports early on. His father was his coach for many years growing up.
Liberty lives by the bible verse Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ, no longer I who lives but Christ who lives in me, and the life I now live in the flesh.” Liberty found this verse when he started to pursue Christ without “piggybacking” off his parents. Liberty loves this verse and has been living by it since he was 16 years old.
Some advice Liberty has given to his athletes:
“You will have a lot more fun developing other people and leading them than focusing on yourself.”
“We want our athletes to leave their jersey in a better place than where they found it. At the end of the day, nobody will remember your stats, but people will remember what type of person you were when you see them a few years down the line.”
Joe Gimbel took over as the First Assistant Coach in November of 2024 after previously assisting the team since the 2016 season at Colorado Christian. He is involved in all facets of the game. Joe helped the team improve in the 2025 season as they gained momentum in conference play and closed with consecutive series wins to end the year.
A lifelong Colorado native, Gimbel previously worked with Columbine High School - his alma mater. In 2006, he helped the squad to the state's 5A championships while serving as the bench coach.
He attended nearby MSU Denver where he worked towards his degree in Sports Medicine.
As one of the best athletes to come through the CCU Softball program, Kenzie Middleton began a legacy for herself that will continue on within her new role as assistant coach. The spring season of 2025 will be her first season, and in the summer of 2025 she was promoted to First Assistant Coach. From Arvada, Colorado she brings consistency and familiarity to a team she knows well.
During her four years as an athlete, Middleton garnered countless awards and school records that set the bar high. her records range from most career hits, career runs, career RBI, career home runs, career doubles, career triples, career slugging percentage, season runs, season RBI, and season home runs. These numbers came from a strong love for the game, work ethic, and diligence on and off the field. Kenzie has showcased her versatility as a player, excelling behind the plate, in the batter's box, and the outfield. Her impact has also been demonstrated through her leadership as team captain her senior year. Off the field, Kenzie and her twin sister, Kayla enjoy spending time with family and being outdoors. Boating, camping, golf, tennis, and pickle ball are just a few hobbies she enjoys. It comes as no surprise that sports run deep in their family as Kenzie and her twin sister have left their mark on the CCU Softball team. Middleton's mom, aunt, and uncle all played tennis in college at UNC; a further testimony to the skilled and hard working family she was raised by.
